Industry observers are salivating over what may or may not be beneath the hood of the 2014 BMW M3 that is now being tested by the Bavarian builder of body movers. At first, the rumor was that the newest M3 would feature a tri-turbo, straight-six engine. However, word has recently seeped out that the next-generation M3 will instead by powered by a 3.0L, twin-turbo V6.
Those in the know believe that such an upgrade would be in keeping in line with the 4.4L, twin-turbo V8 engine that the automaker is already bolting inside its M5 and M6 models. Of course, this monstrous engine would increase insurance rates for BMW M3 – but who cares?!
In addition to the new power train, it is believed that the 2014 M3 will include be improved by the addition of lighter weight components and maybe even electric power steering. For the first time ever, the 2014 M3 will unveil its sedan before its coupe.
